it's payback time

When I was younger and was still active in YFC, I was soooo blessed with opportunities to attend the yearly ILC, or International Leaders' Conference. I have religiously attended the conference from 2002-2009, sometimes I have really saved my allowance from school just to have registration fee of P1000.00. I was also blessed with my beloved couple coordinators (our advisers) who sponsored my "reg" just to attend. And one of the best ILCs I have attended was in 2006 which was held in Davao, which my papa paid all my airfare. :)

I can go and on with countless memories on how YFC has truly colored my life, and that the ILC experiences will always be memorable to me. And this year, on it's 20th, ILC is happening here in Manila on April 5-7, and together with my YFC sisses, I am attending as a delegate. weeee.

And since we have been soooo blessed by Papa God with our current jobs, my liveloud buddies have agreed on sending 1 more youth each to the conference. weeee! I'm excited for this youth I will be bringing to have that Jesus experience, that's priceless. That's Amazing. I'm excited to be in the mountaintop of glory once again. I'm excited to be a kid again.

I just hope my leave gets approved, then. It will be. I claim and believe. :)

#seetheSONriseinManila!

a long trip to heaven. :)

Ever traveled alone for a couple of hours, going to a place you have no clue how far is? And you have no idea where to sleep at or who will you interact with?

Dec 2007, a dear friend, Kuya JC, invited me to come and serve at their event and be part of the Gawad Kalinga Bayanihan Challenge service team in Mulanay, Quezon. Mula-what? Sa'n 'yun? But being a GK advocate and a passionate missionary, I willingly obliged to his invitation. So he gave me instructions how to get there, and warned me, "pagdating mo ng Lucena terminal (which is a 4-hour bus ride from Alabang), mga 4 hours pa ulit." WHOA.

So I packed my things and left home at around 7am on a Friday to start my long journey. I am alone. I didn't have Ipod or mp3 player, and all I have was my Bible and my school notebook (I got an exam Monday after that weekend). I got to Lucena around lunch time where I grabbed some bite, and rode another bus that will give me another 4-hour ride to my destination.

San Pedro to Mulanay. We can almost see Marinduque island from our point.

Kuya Jett, another friend who's already at the venue, texted me the lists of barangays I would pass through so I'd know I'm almost there. So I guess he'd listed around 12 barangays. At dahil probinsyang-probinsya, very rare ang signages or barangay markers. Ayos. Puno, dagat, bundok, dagat, bundok, alikabok, puno, kalabaw. 'Yun ang signages ko.

And since I was alone, it was more like a silent retreat for me. With the beautiful view outside the window, I contemplated, "Lord, where are You taking me? What's your purpose?" So, to be able to hear the Lord, I did not talk for the entire trip (syempre, wala din naman akong kasama, except kay Papa God, of course), but for a few phrases my fingers can enumerate:
  • 1 pork chao fan (ordering my favorite meal at Chowking, Lucena Grand Terminal)
  • Mulanay po?
  • Kuya, isa nga po (ice cream.) [the bus had a stopover at a store, at may mamang sorbetero. :p]
  • Kuya, anong lugar na po 'to? Malapit na po ba ang Mulanay? [I asked this teenager who just got off from school. Malapit na daw. whew.]

Finally, at around 3pm, I got off the bus and got a trike that will take me to the GK site. When I got off the trike, I was welcomed with people busy building homes for other people, but still managed to smile at me. Heaven!

Gawad Kalinga Mulanay Village: a haven of love and nationalism

I was welcomed by Kuya JC and Kuya Jett, my two Quezon buddies, and they introduced me to the YFCs in the locale, who have been my family for my three-day stay.

Videoke, kulitan, banda, tugtugan, production team, kwentuhan, kantahan, KAINAN, laro kasama ang mga makukulit na bata. LANGIT NA NAMAN! I was able to bond with my brothers and sisters in the community, taught the boys some music, taught the kids the GK song, and of course helped build the homes of the Mulanay folks. There was also an entertainment night where I experienced a real "diskuhan sa Nayon" and just had some real, genuine fun with them.

I fell in love with these kids in an instant. My favorites - Sampu (ganun sila kadaming magkakapatid) and Tyson (a very sweet little one, as opposed to his name. hihi. :p). [bottom left pic]

It's sweet how the Lord takes you to places with the initial invitation that you'll be the one to teach and share your life to other people. But the truth is, ikaw 'yung natututo. I was greatly touched with how these people shared me their lives, their smiles, their food, their love. I asked the Lord to teach me how to love, and He gave me people who loved me beyond words.

Grateful

Welcome me! Weeee!

When I learned that Multiply is shutting down its file hosting services, I went crazy about recovering and migrating my stuffs there, mostly about the blogs and the pictures I have posted about 5 years ago. And so, I reviewed my blogs, which were posted during my college/YFC days, and they were mostly about my missions, trips, some were announcement to YFC Laguna people, and some were, sadly, about rants.

Yeah, the social media has given people all the right to rant.
"had a bad day! urrghhh!"
"traffic! bad trip late na ako!"
"fare increase! #@$%^"
These are familiar lines in twitter and facebook. Although people still share about good things, like taking a picture of the delicious dish before munching into it, maybe a little more gratefulness to the One who gave it all, maybe there'll be less rants, less negative, and everyone will greet the day with positive vibes and high spirit. :)

and so, let me share with you this inspiring song which always brightens my day, written by two good friends/brothers/mentors/young men:

Grateful
By Jueren Nabua/Alvin Morada

You've given me this brand new day
to serve and follow You
You took my tears and made me smile
You lifted me up
You gave me all the reasons Lord
to see things as gift from You
I go out and testify and shout to the world

I will lift Your name on high
I'll forever worship You
I will serve You with all of my heart
'Cause You are my God
I'll forever be grateful

When trouble comes my way
You were there to stay
and everything will be alright
and now I know is true
that this love is You
And I will live each day and say...

I will lift Your name on high
I'll forever worship You
I will serve You with all of my heart
'Cause You are my God
I'll forever be grateful

So my goal is, to make everything I write glorify and gratify my Creator. :)

So help me, Papa God. + =)

i've been to heaven.....whoooh!

**this was posted in my Multiply during the height of my service as YFC Laguna's provincial youth head, after attending the International Leaders' Conference in Tagaytay. nice to look back to those days.**

I can say that I was really reluctant to go to the ILC...i almost gave my slot to the younger yfcs....sobrang feel ko, i shouldn't be there for reasons of guilt, responsibility with other aspects of my life, at hiya sa parents ko...but then, i should go. i really have to go. i need to be there. not only because i'm a leader and kailangan ako ng mga alaga ko. but also because, kailangan ko tlaga bumalik. i've been away from God the past months...and this should be the moment that i will come back....

...oh dude...

***I posted this in my multiply account, way back 2007, in memory of a good friend and brother, Noel Ramido, and the inspiration he still brings me once in a while. He died March 5, 2007, at the young age of 18, due to Sarcoma***

...have we ever imagined what's it gonna be like when we die?  what will other people say? will they talk about us?...hmmm....

It was monday when i was startled by a call from a sister in YFC... When I answered the call, she was crying, "anak, si Noel...wala na..." ...that instance, i was shocked...then bigla ako ngflashback....

flashback...

flashback...

Noel is a friend which I'll surely never forget. We were still young then when I met him. Sobrang kulit, maligalig...ay grabe! as in naghahabulan kami 'pag may event! He won't last a day nang hindi ako kinukurot until I'd cry kc mgkakapasa na ako. Pero tawa lng sya ng tawa....hahaha....nakakainis!

Magaling sya sumayaw...and ang active sa service...talaga naman!

But then, life's not really that good for him. Dati, pinagpa-pray namin sya kasi may ooperahan daw sa arm nya...na naging tumor...na naging cancer....Sarcoma, that is....

Then I haven't heard from him for a long time. The next time I saw him, his left arm was already amputated. But still the same old noel, makulit, maligalig, kukurutin ako kahit isang arm kamay lang gamit nya. hmmmmppp!

He even joined us in the SEA Games rehearsal where we had to dance. Andaming tumitingin sa kanya na para bang nakakadiri sya. Gusto ko silang upakan! Hmmp! But for him, life goes on. He even danced with his, kahit di ok ang pakiramdam nya.

There was one team building which he still attended and even volunteered as part of the service team. And as a service team, he insisted on washing the dishes, even with just one arm. Wow!

I visited him one time in PGH. It was when his gall bladder was removed. He was in pain, in very deep pain. And I felt so stupid to have asked him, "Kamusta ka?" although it was obvious that he's struggling. He replied in a slow and difficult manner, "eto, ok naman, unti-unting binabawasan ang katawan ko, but I'm ok, I'm not giving up, kasi alam ko madami pang papagawa sa 'kin si God. Madami pa akong mission. Gusto ko pang mag-Full time Work" I cried as soon as I got out of his hospital room. What kind of faith that is! He continued to inspire me. He has still continued attending our activities in between chemotherapy sessions, even though he has lost too much weight, and has gone complete bald. He strived to make everything normal for him.

January this year, I asked him to be one of the sharers for our Kasangga Retreat. Without hesitation, he immediately said yes. The night before his sharing, he texted me what time should he be in the venue. I said 8am, without me knowing that at that very moment as we were texting, he was in a bad shape. Still, he asked his parents to drive him to Sta. Cruz Laguna, two hours away from Pacita, to share to us how great God is in his life. His sharing was indeed an inspiration for all the delegates.  His arm was amputated, he's totally sick and have no idea how long still his life is, but he is making the most of his life serving God, whatever it takes.

Now that he's in God's arm, I know that he has really fulfilled his mission. He died at the young age of 18, but I know he is with the Lord.

Tama sya. Madaming tao ang kumpleto ang katawan, very healthy, but are not using their blessings to serve God. Hihintayin pa ba nating mag agaw buhaytayo para lang pagsilbihan Siya? Let's just make every second of our lives count by serving God and living for His glory...

..a life lived for God leaves a lasting legacy.....
